 From the Principal

Dear Bassett Families,

What a winter this has been!  Spring is here and we are in our last quarter.  I want to thank all the parents and PTA support to make science day a success.  Mrs. Kowalski with her committee did an excellent job of planning and organizing.  Our next big school event will be our talent show.  Please join us in witnessing the 65 great acts that will perform.  Thank you for your continued support at Bassett.

Art Show and Ice Cream Social:

Please come out to Bassett on May 2th at 6:00 pm to see hundreds of wonderful pieces of student’s art work.  PTA will be sponsoring this event by providing everyone that comes out with ice cream!

Grandparents/ Special Friends - Visitation Day:

Visitation day for Bassett this year is May 11th.  We are looking forward to having grandparents or other special friends come in and see what the students have been learning.  I am meeting with grade levels soon to designate times for each grade to host the visitors.  Please be looking for that information coming home soon.

Class Assignments for Next Year:

We are in the process of planning for the 2012 – 2013 school year. An important consideration for a successful year is the preparation of class lists. Much hard work goes into this process. Our placement decisions involve input from teachers and parents with final class lists approved by the administration. These lists are completed with great care.  As we work on class assignments, we consider several dynamics including academic factors, learning styles, personalities, behavior and peer relations. Classes are mixed for academic ability (heterogeneous grouping) and balanced for size and gender (as much as possible). Our classroom teachers, special area teachers, intervention specialists, and guidance counselor will be working closely together with me to ensure that we have not overlooked any aspect of appropriate placement. If you feel you would like to add input to the sectioning process, please write a letter with your concerns to Mr. Hodge by April 5th.  Email would be the best way to communicate your thoughts.  As in the past, I am not asking for requests for specific teachers. We are looking for input in regard to your child’s learning styles, behaviors and peer relations. If you do not wish to offer input, no further action is necessary.  We will be meeting with the teachers to discuss the information gathered from you and your child’s current teacher. We will place each child in the class we feel will provide the best opportunity for continued growth. For input to be considered, I must receive the letter by Thursday, April 5, 2012.  Once classes have been formed, any change is extremely difficult. Now is the time for input.  I appreciate your help and support in this important decision.

Bassett Talent Show – Thursday, April 5th

The show will be held on Thursday, April 5th.  We will start promptly at 8:30.  Please contact Mrs. Spieth if you have any questions.  Spieth@wlake.org
